Conroe Regional Medical Center

Call 936-539-1111 for information about our services..

Twenty-five years ago, Conroe Regional Medical Center was known as the "county hospital." Today, having expanded to 360 beds, a staff of 1,200 with over 250 physicians on staff, Conroe Regional Medical Center is being recognized as a comprehensive regional tertiary referral center.

"From newborns who require neonatal intensive care management and monitoring to patients who come to us for off-pump coronary bypass surgery, Conroe Regional Medical Center has come a long way from the title and services of the county hospital," said Jerry Nash, CEO. "We are proud of our associations with hospitals in The Woodlands, Livingston, Huntsville, Cleveland, Tomball, Kingwood, and throughout the region who refer their patients to us when there is a need for a higher level of care."

Both the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Emergency Department are Level III services - providing higher levels of care that are not readily available in many regions between Dallas and Houston.

The objective of Conroe Regional Medical Center remains the same - to serve the people in the community who come to us for their healthcare needs.

The recently opened and expanded Intensive Care and Cardiac Care Units provide state-of-the-art technology and monitoring for as many as 36 patients at a time.

"Having an ICU/CCU of this size happened by design," Nash said. "We planned for the influx of people who are moving to this part of Texas to enjoy the open spaces and lakes in their retirement years. We wanted to provide them with services and quality care when they need it, close to home."

The other end of the age spectrum has not been forgotten. Our neonatal unit features intensive care services for high-risk newborns born at our hospital or transported in from anywhere in a 100-mile radius. Neonatologists attend to these babies, as do board certified physicians of many specialties and a certified nursing staff. A transport team, specially trained to prepare, care for and manage these newborns as they are transferred in from other facilities, is on call 24-hours a day.

The community will see more evidence of a greater commitment to heart care as facelifts occur throughout the hospital to house additional technology, to provide better accommodations for patients and their families, and to create additional consultation space for our physicians. Development of a comprehensive HeartCare Center will continue to be the focus for Conroe Regional Medical Center in the years ahead.

"We want residents who are experiencing heart problems to have one central location to receive their care. We continue to improve technology and add necessary personnel to insure the best heart care in the region. Heart disease is the nation's number one killer and we want to do all we can to help eradicate it," Nash said.

From chest pain to off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery, we provide comprehensive cardiovascular services. Patients come for laser heart surgery, open heart surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery and videoscopic vein harvesting, as well as thrombolytic therapy, and peripheral disease services such as balloon angioplasty, stents, rotational atherectomy, and pacemakers.

Of course, surgery, outpatient testing, 24/7 emergency care in theConroe Regional Medical Center Level III Trauma Center, OB, Women's services, Cancer services, sleep lab, hyperbaric medicine, diabetes management, physical therapy, cardiac rehab and all other services of the hospital will continue to be offered to the region.

The objective of Conroe Regional Medical Center remains the same - to serve the people in the community who come to us for their healthcare needs. The focus continues to expand as we offer the entire region a convenient, quality location filled with educated, professional staff who can provide expert care using technologically advanced techniques and equipment right in their own backyard.

The Chest Pain Accredited Emergency Center has demonstrated its expertise and commitment to quality patient care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria and completing on-site evaluations by a review team from the Society of Chest Pain Centers.

Key areas in which a chest pain center must demonstrate expertise include:

Heart attacks stand as the leading cause of death in the United States, with more than 650,000 dying annually of heart disease. More than 5 million Americans visit hospitals each year with chest pain. The goal of the Society of Chest Pain Centers is to significantly reduce the mortality rate of these patients by recognizing and reacting to the early symptoms of a possible heart attack, reducing the time that it takes to receive treatment, and increasing the accuracy and effectiveness of treatment.

  • 71% of women experience early warning signs of heart attack with sudden onset of extreme weakness that feels like the flu-often with no chest pain at all.
  • Nearly two-thirds of the deaths from heart attacks in women occur among those who have no history of chest pain.

Hospital Imaging Services

Conroe Regional Medical Center has six comprehensive services that provide the latest in technology to assist in your diagnosis and treatment plan.

Call 936-539-7522 and schedule an appointment with our Imaging Services.

Radiology (X-ray)

An X-ray is produced when a small amount of radiation passes through the body and is captured on film, video or computer. Board-certified radiologists provide supervision and guidance for the diagnostic and fluoroscopic procedures performed by nationally registered technologists.

CT Scan

A CT Scan allows the physician to capture an image from the many different angles as the X-ray source rotates around the patients. Our 64-slice, state-of-the-art multislice CT Scan has shortened examination time to just minutes.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

The highest quality MRI diagnostic information available is provided by our 1.5T short bore magnet. This procedure uses a magnet linked to a computer to create detailed pictures of areas inside the body. Our advanced registered technologists specialize in MR imaging and are committed to making you very satisfied with your experience.

From the neonate through the oldest patients, our sonographers provide diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist your physician in keeping you healthy or returning you to health. Ultrasound is a test that bounces sound waves off tissue and organs and translates the sound waves into sonograms (pictures) rather than using radiation (X-ray technology).

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine allows us to record radiation in organs, bones and tissues from the inside out. Radiopharmaceuticals are injected, swallowed or inhaled by a patient and the internal emissions are recorded on a computer screen or film. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations cited our nuclear medicine department for “Best Practice” related to patient and medication safety. Among the services provided in this department are Nuclear cardiology and PET Scan.

Women's Imaging

One in eight American women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Comprehensive routine and diagnostic services are available to women of all ages in a setting that is warm and supportive. These services include softer Mammography, Stereotactic breast biopsy, Breast ultrasound, Bone density testing, and Genetic breast cancer testing.

For our patients who want a mammogram with less discomfort, we invite you to go soft! The new Softer Mammogram is available at Conroe Regional Medical Center. The MammoPad is a soft, foam pad that provides a cushion between you and the mammography machine. The Softer Mammogram will change the way you feel about mammography. It has helped many women face mammograms without fear.

Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology is replacing many invasive surgery techniques, enabling physicians to treat medical conditions without the need for open surgery. Narrow catheters and other small instruments are guided through blood vessels and other body sites to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions, resulting in reduced recovery time without the pain of a large incision. Money magazine has acknowledged the Interventional Radiology Department at Conroe Regional Medical Center as one of the best in the Plains Region of the United States. At The Woman's Hospital of Texas at Conroe Regional Medical Center we're creating services focused on the unique needs of women. In other words, we're adding a woman's touch! We're committed to caring for women through every stage of their lives, helping to provide a lifetime of health and wellness.

Our Philosophy

The Woman's Hospital of Texas at Conroe Regional Medical Center is a popular choice as a birthing center for many reasons. We offer:

  • Outstanding physicians
  • Experienced and caring nurses
  • Exceptional facilities
  • Progressive educations programs
  • A natural approach to the birthing process
  • The convenience and support of being close to home

But what is most important about our program is that it is about you. We work with parents to safely have your baby “your way”. Whether you have a predetermined birthing plan, or you want assistance establishing a plan for you, we work to make sure all your needs are met. With your doctor's supervision, we make every effort to make your child's birth day special!

Tailored-to-You Birthing

The decision to have a baby is one of the most important you'll ever make. Once you are pregnant, you are faced with another major decision – where to give birth.

It is important to select a hospital where you feel comfortable; and where you have options that make the delivery of your baby personal for you. Our nursing staff at Conroe Regional is very adept at anticipating and acting on your needs so you can stay focused on your task at hand. We have at our disposal the latest most effective labor techniques to promote relaxation, including music, comfortable rocking chairs and a safe and controlled environment for walking.

For labor, delivery and recovery, you will have your own private birthing suite. Safety is a major importance and all birthing suites are equipped with everything needed for a safe and healthy delivery. Depending on the length of your labor, the nurses who help coach you through that process may also help you and your baby during your recovery. Following that time, you will be taken to your own private postpartum room.

Getting to know your baby

The first hour after birth is period when your baby is most alert. This time is especially important to establishing good bonding so you will be able to cuddle and hold your baby, It is also an excellent time to being breastfeeding.

Following this bonding period the baby will need to go to the nursery for a quick exam and bath. Dad can carry the baby and will be present in the nursery as your baby us weighed and measured. Dad is given an identification bracelet allowing him to visit you and your baby as much as he likes. During this time, you will be transferred to your post-partum room.

Upon admission to the nursery, your baby will have a security device attached to his/her ankle. You will have a matching security device placed on your wrist. We call this our “hugs and kisses”. One the “kiss” comes in contact with the “hug” a sweet charm sounds. This is just one way we assure proper identification of each baby. Newborns cannot be taken out of the hospital without an alarm sounding and the doors locking down. This alarm also gives the location of the newborn so staff and security can respond quickly. The safety and security of you and your baby are extremely important to us.

Expecting the unexpected

While we work hard to follow your birth plan, occasionally unexpected events happen. Our staff will inform you and your family of any problems that arise during labor and will recommend any changes that may be necessary. We have a full array of medical equipment that is quickly accessible to assist you and your baby. In the event of more serious problems, our experience neonatology staff is standing by 24 hours a day.

Should a caesarean birth be necessary, we have two operating rooms located on the unit. Following the birth, you will recover in a labor and delivery recovery room. During your recovery you will remain near your baby.

Breastfeeding support

We offer one-to-one consultation with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Our lactation consultant is available to assist you any time. She can help you and your baby be successful at breastfeeding by dealing with issues such as latching on, preventing and managing sore nipples/engorgement, sucking problems, refusal to nurse and mil-supply concerns.

Important Moments: The Days after Birth

After your baby is born we begin teaching you how to care for yourself and your new baby. We provide one-on-one instruction the help you with breastfeeding, infant care, nutrition and exercise.

Baby's First Picture
We have contracted with a company to take a photograph of your baby. A representative will call on your during your stay to discuss purchase of the pictures. You are not obligated to buy. This same company can also arrange to have your baby's photo placed on the Internet.

Complimentary Birth Certificate
A complimentary, unofficial birth record with your baby's footprints is given to you by the hospital before you go home. This document does not take the place of the official birth certificate which the hospital will file with the County Recorder's office. You may obtain an official birth certificate from the Montgomery County Courthouse at 301 N. Main Street, Conroe, TX 77301. We will also start the process of obtaining a Social Security number for your baby.

Perinatal Education

We believe education and support program provide an essential understating of the birth process and make the difference between great expectations and feelings of anxiety. Whether you are a first-time mom or an “experience” parent, we encourage you to take advantage of the many excellent educational opportunities we provide to help you prepare for the birth of your baby.

Childbirth Preparation Series is one of our most popular programs. Conducted by Certified Childbirth Educators with over 16 years experience, this program assists the expectant couple in understanding the physical and emotional changes taking place during pregnancy. The course covers all aspects of labor, delivery and postpartum, plus information on medications, intervention, caesarean section and teaches the Lamaze techniques for relaxation and breathing. A tour of the Women's and Newborn Center is included.
